VOLCANIC LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Welcome to the Volcanic Landscape Photography Workshop in Guatemala. Designed for nature lovers and its powerful remote landscapes. All those looking to take their photography to the next level. Adventurers eager to explore the world and its most dramatic locations.
Guatemala is a natural paradise of surprising and captivating landscapes. Its impressive active volcanoes and lakes make it a dream for nature photographers.
Summer is the ideal time to visit the volcanoes, as they are usually clear and it will be easier to appreciate their activity and continuous lava explosions. The main focus of the workshop will be on landscape photography, where we will be chasing the best light so be prepared for long days looking for sunrises and sunsets as well as the night sky.
During this tour we will explore and photograph more than 4 volcanoes and the famous colonial town of Antigua, covering a good part of its territory and volcanic landscape. The magical scenery of this Central American country will be our territory for 5 days.
Live a different experience and explore with us Volcanic Guatemala.
Come and join the adventure!
Antigua – Hobbitenango
We will fly to Guatemala City where we will meet you at La Aurora International Airport and begin our journey to Antigua. After settling into our hotel and an introductory talk, we will depart for Hobbitenango to photograph the spectacular views of the volcanoes at sunset.
Antigua & Volcán Pacaya
On the morning of day two we will go through the impressive alleys of the city of Antigua, after our lunch and a short rest, we will travel to the impressive and active Pacaya Volcano that will receive us with its lava rivers during the sunset light. After sunset we will start our descent and drive back to Antigua.
Ascent to Acatenango & Volcán de Fuego
The extreme adventure begins and our goal will be to climb the Acatenango Volcano where we will camp in front of the impressive view of the erupting Volcán de Fuego and the Volcán de Agua.
We will be transported exclusively in 4×4 vehicles along a private route not open to the public, to the area of the Barrels at Acatenango Volcano. This will save us energy for the rest of the expedition as it will avoid us from climbing 5 hours of complex mountain. We will be able to take more photographic equipment and will have horses to carry the campsite. We will walk 1 hour from the barrels to our campsite. Once we get there, our guides will set up camp and take care of cooking while we rest and have lunch.
That same afternoon, we will hike to the top of Acatenango by sunset. This is a more complex hike because of the steepness of the terrain, but we will go quietly and slowly. The view from the top is overwhelming and inspiring, we will be able to see the Volcán de Fuego in front of us and from a higher elevation with panoramic views down.
At nightfall we will descend to the camp where we will have dinner and continue taking pictures during the rest of the night and early morning. You will have the freedom to choose what time to go to bed and rest to take full advantage of the volcano’s eruptions. Each explosion fills us with an indescribable emotion and the sunrise brings with it a play of tones and colors perfect for photographing volcanoes. A surreal scenario to be able to witness and admire the summit of three volcanoes at the same time.
Descent from Acatenango
After breakfast, we will start the descent to the area of the barrels where our 4×4 vehicles will be waiting to take us back to Antigua. Back at the hotel, we will have time to swim and then have lunch. The rest of the afternoon will be free to rest and get to know the beautiful colonial town of Antigua, with its iconic architecture and cultural richness.
Antigua & Airport
On this day we will be able to take our breakfast in peace and then continue our journey to the airport leaving at 7:30am from Antigua and arriving after 9:00am. We will take our return flights with memory cards full of impressive photos and having completed an enriching and highly satisfactory life experience.

The friendship that was born from this trip is something we need to nurture! We didn’t only learn, we also had a great time. That thrill and excitement we felt with the first aurora and the music that made us cry when seeing it. Thanks for so much!.”
